Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the most common questions about our pick-up service. Click on any question below to see our answer.

What household products can be picked up?

We accept most forms of hazardous products found at home, including: Latex and Oil-based Paints, Solvents and Thinners, Automotive Fluids (Motor Oil, Antifreeze, etc.), Batteries, Cleaning Products, Fluorescent Lighting, Electronics, Monitors and TVs, Gasoline, Mercury and Mercury-Containing Devices, Pool Chemicals, Pesticides and Herbicides, Sealers and Adhesives, Spray Cans, and Propane Tanks. See our What We Accept page for more information, including restricted products.

What is your service area for your pick-up service?

We serve all residences within Massachusetts – sadly, due to state laws, we’re unable to service surrounding states with our pick-up service, regardless of distance. However, residences from out-of-state are allowed to deliver their household chemical wastes to one of Veolia’s Collections Centers.

How much does household hazardous waste pick-up cost?

Using the information provided, we estimate the amount of household hazardous waste using our pricing system, plus a charge for pick up. We’ll provide this information over the phone as a quote and collect payment information. Then we’ll schedule a pick-up date. Once we’ve picked up the products, there will be a final invoice to match the estimate with the final amount picked up. There may also be additional fees if Veolia staff need to spend significant time removing hazardous products from your home. See the “What can I do to make the process easier?” FAQ for more details.

Do I need to be there for pick-up?

No. While we can schedule for pick up while you’re there, for your convenience, you can also place it outside in front of the garage or other easily accessible place for contactless pickup. Just let us know when discussing your location and needs.

Are there any requirements for pick-up?

While there is no minimum amount of hazardous products we’re willing to pick up, customers generally wait until they have a reasonable amount of waste due to the service charge included in the invoice.

Is this only available for household hazardous waste?

Yes. Our Household Hazardous Products Collection Centers are only for residential waste – businesses will need to use our commercial side unless you are registered as a Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) with the MA DEP.

What can I do to make the process easier?

Make sure to gather and stage your products when estimating how much you have. This will make it easier when we come for pick-up. Place them in a shed or garage for easy access by our team so we can avoid hauling hazardous material through your home.
